If you think this whole escape scenario was concocted just to facilitate this one sight gag...you're right. Confession is good for the soul. Obviously, the reason the other big, honking ship doesn't notice is because its field of vision is limited to the front of the ship. I would have explained that yesterday, but it would have ruined the payoff.
